Schlafly ”A(merican) IPA”
This special release IPA out of Missouri deserves some respect. It’s got that characteristic fresh grapefruit pith hop flavor that comes across very fresh. Only mild sweetness, not enough to balance out the bitter, sour hops, but that’s all good with me. Bitterness is well restrained, making way for more hop flavor and greater drinkability. This is all about the grapefruit, but there is a distinctively peachy aroma and flavor, adding a nice fruity touch. There’s a touch of pine resin on the finish that dries things out just a touch, tasting of grapefruit rind. The feel is perfectly creamy and solid as could be.
Overall, this is a solid IPA and a good representation of the style. A strong emphasis on grapefruit hops with a pine accent, paired with a creamy feel. This tastes like fresh fermented grapefruit juice in the best of ways. It’s simple and focused, but well-crafted. I’m impressed. Recommended.
